Telford, 30/06/22 – Charity of the Year – 300 Miles Cycling Challenge
As we are now halfway through 2022, we wanted to share an update on how our fundraising is going for our Charity of the Year. We have now raised a total of £4,159.75 and are incredibly proud of the nFocus team for their efforts!
The awesome team took on a 300 mile bike challenge for the company’s corporate charity, Cancer Research UK. They completed the challenge in just under 30 days and together, they cycled a total of 1,950 miles! They have very tired legs but it’s great to see their smiley faces! All those who have taken part in this year’s challenges have mentioned the sense of achievement they felt personally, the rapport they experienced with others involved and how much they enjoyed the challenge!
Our QA Test Lead, Steven Abrams shared his personal reflections: “Back in 2007, I had my own personal experience with cancer which changed my total outlook on life. Since then, I have realised how precious life really is and how it can affect many people we know. I have had friends that have had and survived cancer and a couple that, sadly have not. Therefore, anything we can do to raise awareness and funding to help with cancer research activities is something close to my heart. Being fit and doing exercise is one of the easiest things we can all do to remain healthy. I cycled to work when I was at Microsoft every day for 10 years. After I left Microsoft, I took up cycling more seriously and socially at weekends as a way to keep the heart pumping, the mind clear and the body fit. Also, cycling with friends in this beautiful countryside, in search of cake & coffee and camaraderie has been one of the best things I have ever done. During this 300 mile challenge for the month of June, I have cycled with 8 different friends, visited 6 different cafes and so far; covered almost 400 miles and never got wet in the rain once! Thanks for all the support from nFocus and hopefully, we can all do something together in the future!”
Our Graduate SDET Consultant, Edward completed a 10k Race for Life at the beginning of the month and here is what he had to say about the day: “It was a great day out running around Willen lake in the summer sun. It felt good to run alongside so many others taking part in the charity run. On my way round, I spent a lot of time chatting to people who had caught up with me or whom I had caught up to. There was a real sense of camaraderie. I’m very much looking forward to the next big run in pink!”
nFocus are supporting Cancer Research UK after it was voted as ‘Charity of the Year’ by colleagues and a number of colleagues have already participated in challenges and fundraising activities for the charity. Cancer Research UK was formed 20 years ago in 2002. Although, their history goes back much further to 1902. Over the last 40 years, cancer survival in the UK has doubled. In the 1970s, just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today, 2 in 4 survive. Their ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034.
